The REAL MTB Triathlon

The REAL Mountain Bike Triathlon has two distances for Off-Road Triathletes to enjoy. The Super Sprint MTB Triathlon has a 400 yard swim-8 mile mountain bike-2 mile run course. The REAL MTB Triathlon has a half mile swim-16 mile mountain bike-4 mile run course. Both swims are in Folsom Lake and the bike and run courses are on scenic single track trails around the lake.

NEW in 2020 is the REAL Trail Run. Four miles of un-scene, un-run trails taking you along the beautiful shoreline of Folsom Lake.

Included with your race entry is a safe, fantastic and very well marked course, a post race hot meal, raffle prizes, awards five-deep in each age group for the REAL MTB Triathlon and Finisher Souvenirs for each competitor.

Start Time

  • Real MTB Super Sprint Triathlon: 8 am
  • Real MTB Triathlon: 9 am

Distances

  • REAL MTB Triathlon: Swim ½ mile – Bike 16 miles – Run 4 miles
  • REAL MTB Super Sprint Triathlon: Swim 400 yards– Bike 8 miles – Run 2 miles
  • REAL Trail Run: 5K (3.1 miles)

Swim – The race starts with a ½ mile, 1-lap swim in Folsom Lake, water temperature around 60 degrees. Wetsuits are permitted for all athletes.

Bike – The 16-mile bike course on single track trails around the lake is two 8-mile loops with mixed terrain of single-track, downhills, climbs, sand, and packed decomposed granite.

Run – The 4-mile run is new this year. The course will travel north from the start for 2 miles toward Doton’s Point and feature a mix of single-track trails, cross country and lakeside trails.

Transition Area

The Transition area will be on a first-come basis, with the exception of Reserved Bike Racks for TRI Clubs. The transition area at all TBF Racing events is for athletes only. All non-athletes must remain outside of the transition area at all times on race day. Bodymarking will be take place at the entrance to the transition area and must be completed before you enter the transition area. Athletes will have their race number marked on their legs and arms and have their age division on their calf. Glass or bottles are not allowed in the transition area.

Aid Stations

Aid stations will be located in the transition area and at mile one and two on the run course, serving cold water, energy gel, and Electrolyte beverage.

Equipment

Expected water temperature for Folsom Lake will be 56-62 degrees. Wetsuits are strongly recommended. Swim fins and snorkels are not allowed. Helmets must be worn and buckled on the bike at all times. Run numbers must be worn on the run and when crossing the finish line. Listening devices of any kind: MP3, IPod, headphones, etc…are not allowed.

Packet Pickup

Race packets will be available race morning from 7:00am to 9:00 am at the race site.

Awards for the  REAL MTB Triathlon will be given FIVE-deep in each ten-year age group and division (Clydesdale, Athena and Challenged Athlete divisions). Relay Team awards will be for the Top three teams in each Division of Male, Female and Coed.

Refund and transfer policy

TBF Racing has a no refund policy on all of our events. A refund requested prior to race week will be given a TBF Race credit for the amount of the entry fee minus a $25 processing fee. Credits are not given during race week. Transfers are allowed from one TBF Racing event to another within a one-year time frame. There is a $25 transfer fee. Transfers are not allowed during race week. ALL TBF Racing events are held rain or shine.

Race for FREE program

Our Race for FREE Athlete Volunteer Program offers a chance to get involved with multi-sport events, have fun, and earn a $40 TBF Racing Volunteer voucher good towards entry fees at any of our events this year. Each volunteer shift is 4 hours. We ask volunteers to reserve a volunteer position at any of our events by emailing volunteersi@totalbodyfitness.com as our volunteer positions will fill up quickly.

Granite Bay State Park on Folsom lake is located at the end of Douglas Blvd, 5-6 miles East of I-80. Turn right at the third stop sign after entering the park for the Granite Beach parking lot. There is a $12 vehicle charge for day-use or $125 for an annual pass. Contact phone: 916 988 0205.
