The TRI for FUN Sprint Triathlon began in 1983, started by Fleet Feet Sports founder Sally Edwards. TBF Racing took over the event in 2001 and have enjoyed working with the SMUD Staff at Rancho Seco Park to bring you this classic Series of Triathlons each summer. The original TRI for FUN Series is back in its 35th year at Rancho Seco Park. The Series Dates are: June 9, July 14, & August 11.
Back is the Super Sprint distance Triathlon and Duathlon. These easy-to-have-fun races will consist of a 200 yard swim or 1 mile run, followed by a 4 mile bike and 1 mile run. The Super Sprint Triathlon and Duathlon will both start at 8 am.
The race is at beautiful Rancho Seco Park featuring a lake swim, a road bike course, and a dirt trail run. The TRI for FUN Sprint Triathlon is a popular event for experienced triathletes and first-timers.
Included for each athlete is custom TRI for FUN tech-tee race shirt, a swim cap, an athlete goody bag, hot post race meal and raffle prizes.
Entry into Rancho Seco Park will be closed from 8 am to 8:30 am due to Super Sprint event bike course closure. Vehicles can park and walk in approximately one mile or wait until the road opens at 8: 20-8:30 am.
TRI for FUN/DU for FUN
Swim – The race starts from the beach in with a .5 mile swim from the beach area. The swim course will be a triangular course in Rancho Seco Lake marked by the large white triangular buoys. Water temperature should be approximately 70 degrees. Wetsuits are allowed. The swim will exit the lake and head up the beach and on a grassy path to the transition area located in the parking area.
Bike – The bike course is 16-miles. You will exit the transition area and then mount your bike. From there you will exit the park and make a right hand turn on Hwy 104, making a U-turn at the turn around point and returning to the park. The Bike course will Not have an aid station. Water and electrolyte beverage, along with energy gels will be available in the transition area.

Run – The run course begins directly outside the transition area and is a 3 mile out-and-back course on fire roads and trails within the park. There will be two aid stations with water and electrolyte beverage, plus energy gels on the run course. One at the start of the run, and one at the turn-around point on the run course. ALL athletes must wear their race number on the front of their body during the run and have it when crossing the finish line.

Super Sprint Triathlon/Duathlon
Swim – The race starts from the beach in with a 200 yard swim bordering the beach The Swim Course will be marked by the large white triangular buoys. Water temperature should be approximately 70 degrees. Wetsuits are allowed. The swim will exit the lake and head up the beach and on a grassy path to the transition area located in the parking area.
Bike – The bike course will be a four-mile course on the roads inside the park at Rancho Seco. The course will be closed to traffic and monitored for safety. The Bike course will Not have an aid station. Water and electrolyte beverage, along with energy gels will be available in the transition area.

Run – The run course will be a one-mile course around sections of the lake on grass and trails. There will be an aid station at the start and half way on the run course. ALL athletes must wear their race number on the front of their body during the run and have it when crossing the finish line.

Bike Course Rules and Safety Regulations:
Please be careful while on the road. Riders must stay to the right at all times. Riders must not draft other riders. You must maintain at least THREE bike lengths at all times behind the rider in front of you, and you MUST ride single file while on the Highway. Passing is allowed in a timely manner when it is safe to do so. After passing return to the right side of the road and continue to ride safely. Failure to do so will result in a drafting penalty or disqualification. Crossing the centerline at ANY time will also result in disqualification. Riders exiting the park at Rancho Seco will proceed to the turn around on Hwy 104 and return to the park. Traffic has the right-of-way on the road so ride CAREFULLY.
The Transition area will be on a first-come basis, with the exception of Reserved Bike Racks for TRI Clubs. The transition area at all TBF Racing events is for athletes only. All non-athletes must remain outside of the transition area at all times on race day. Bodymarking will be take place at the entrance to the transition area and must be completed before you enter the transition area. Athletes will have their race number marked on their legs and arms and have their age division on their calf. Glass or bottles are not allowed in the transition area.
Aid stations will be located in the transition area and at mile one and two on the run courses, serving cold water, energy gels, and FLUID electrolyte beverage.
Expected water temperature for Rancho Seco Park Lake will be 72-76 degrees. Wetsuits are optional. Swim fins and snorkels are not allowed. Helmets must be worn and buckled on the bike at all times. Run numbers must be worn on the run and when crossing the finish line. Listening devices of any kind: MP3, IPod, headphones, etc.. are not allowed.
Race packets will be available race morning from 6:30 am to 8:30 am at the race site. The races will start promptly at 8:00 and 8:30 am. Be sure to give yourself plenty of time for entrance to the park, parking, transition set-up and warm-up. There is a $10 park entrance fee per vehicle.

First place Overall Male and Female in the TRI for FUN Triathlon will receive Overall Champion Awards. There will be awards five-deep in each five-year age group and division for the TRI for FUN sprint triathlon. Relay Team awards will be for the Top three teams in each Division of Male, Female and Coed for the TRI for FUN triathlon.
First place Overall Male and Female in the Super Sprint Triathlon and Duathlon will receive Overall Champion Awards. There will be awards five deep in each ten-year age group and division for the Super Sprint Triathlon and three deep in each ten-year age group for the Super Sprint Duathlon.

Refund and transfer policy
TBF Racing has a no refund policy on all of our events. A refund requested prior to race week will be given a TBF Race credit for the amount of the entry fee minus a $25 processing fee. Credits are not given during race week. Transfers are allowed from one TBF Racing event to another within a one-year time frame. There is a $25 transfer fee. Transfers are not allowed during race week. ALL TBF Racing events are held rain or shine.
Included for each competitor is a TRI for FUN custom tech-tee race shirt, XTERRA swim cap, athlete goody bag with CLIF Bar, Emerald Nuts, RedBull and other product samples.
Post Race Athlete Food
Included for each competitor is a post race meal of hot pasta with meat and vegetarian protein options, salad, fruit, cookies and beverage.
Training and Coaching:
TBF Training provides group workouts and coaching for the sport of Triathlon along with individual Multi-sport Coaching and Personal Training.
Race for FREE program
Our Race for FREE Athlete Volunteer Program offers a chance to get involved with multi-sport events, have fun, and earn a $40 TBF Racing Volunteer voucher good towards entry fees at any of our events this year. Each volunteer shift is 4 hours. We ask volunteers to reserve a volunteer position at any of our events by emailing Teri@totalbodyfitness.com as our volunteer positions will fill up quickly.

Rancho Seco Park is the site of many of the TBF Racing summer events. The park features plenty of camping and the lake’s summertime water temperature is in the 70s.
If you are a member of a Triathlon Club that has 10 or more athletes racing with TBF Racing we can provide Reserved bike racks in the transition area for your club, have your club set up a tent in the expo/athlete area, and hang your banners at the event. To take advantage of this program, TRI Clubs must send the list of 10 or more pre-registered athletes to Bill@totalbodyfitness.com 7-10 days prior to the race.
