The USAT-Sanctioned TRI for REAL Olympic-distance Triathlon was added to our TRI for FUN Sprint Triathlon Series in 2003. These races are held at Rancho Seco Park in Herald, California. The course has a 1.5 k swim – 40 k bike – 10 k run. Included for each athlete is custom tech-tee race shirt, a swim cap, athlete goody bag, hot post-race meal, and free athlete massage.
Returning this year: the Oly Lite Triathlon option: 1.5K swim-40K bike-1mile run. There is also an option for a 1.2 or 2.4 Mile IRON Swim, with swim cap and lunch included!
New this year: TRI for REAL Finisher Medals!
TRI for REAL Series
The series dates for the three races are: June 10, July 15 and August 12, 2018. Series Awards, including a free entry into the 2019 TRI for REAL Series, will be presented to the top male and female racing all three events in each age group.Sign up for all three TRI for REAL Triathlons for $210 until the end of November. Series price increases to $250 on December 1st, 2017.
The TRI for REAL Triathlon and Aqua Bike will be USAT Sanctioned, requiring the purchase of a $15 one-day license with USAT, or the holding of an annual membership card with USAT. The Oly Lite Triathlon is not USAT Sanctioned and does not require a USAT membership.
Entry into Rancho Seco Park will be closed from 7:30 am to 8:00 am due to TRI for KIDS event bike course closure. Vehicles can park and walk in approximately two miles or wait until the road opens at 8 am.
Swim – The race starts from the beach in with a 1.5 kilometer or .93 mile swim from the beach area. The swim course will be a triangular course in Rancho Seco Lake marked by the large white triangular buoys. Water temperature should be between 68 and 74 degrees. Wetsuits are allowed. The swim will exit the lake and head up the beach and on a grassy path to the transition area located in the parking area.
Bike – The 40 k mile bike course is an out and back course. The first 2.5 miles are inside the park. The course will turn right onto Twin Cities Road (State Highway 104). The turn-around point is just before the City of Ione at the 12.4 mile mark (at Five Mile Road). Please be careful while on the road. Riders must stay to the right at all times! Riders must not draft other riders: You must maintain at least THREE bike lengths at all times behind the rider in front of you, and you MUST ride single file while on the Highway. Passing is allowed in a timely manner when it is safe to do so. After passing return to the right side of the road and continue to ride safely. Failure to do so will result in a drafting penalty or disqualification. Crossing the centerline at ANY time will also result in disqualification. Proceed to the turn around on Hwy 104 and return to the park. Traffic has the right-of-way on the road so ride CAREFULLY. The Bike course will Not have an aid station. Water and electrolyte beverage, along with energy gels will be available in the transition area.

Run – The run course begins directly outside the transition area and is a 10-kilometer or 6.2 mile out-and-back course on fire roads and trails within the park. There will be aid stations with cold water, FLUID electrolyte beverage and Clif Shot energy gels on the run course at run start, mile 1, 2, 3.5, and 5.2. ALL athletes must wear their race number on the front of their body during the run and have it when crossing the finish line.

The Transition area will be on a first-come basis, with the exception of Reserved Bike Racks for TRI Clubs. The transition area at all TBF Racing events is for athletes only. All non-athletes must remain outside of the transition area at all times on race day. Bodymarking will be take place at the entrance to the transition area and must be completed before you enter the transition area. Athletes will have their race number marked on their legs and arms and have their age division on their calf. Glass or bottles are not allowed in the transition area.
Aid stations will be located in the transition area and at mile one and two on the run course, serving cold water, energy gels, and FLUID electrolyte beverage.
Expected water temperature for Rancho Seco Park Lake will be 72-76 degrees. Wetsuits are optional. Swim fins and snorkels are not allowed. Helmets must be worn and buckled on the bike at all times. Run numbers must be worn on the run and when crossing the finish line. Listening devices of any kind: MP3, IPod, headphones, etc.. are not allowed.
Race packets will be available race morning from 6:30 am to 8:30 am at the race site. The races will start promptly at 8:00, 8:12 and 8:30 am. Be sure to give yourself plenty of time for entrance to the park, parking, transition set-up and warm-up.

First place Overall Male and Female in the TRI for Real Triathlon will receive Overall Champion Awards. There will be awards five deep in each five-year age group and divisions for the TRI for Real Triathlon. Relay Team awards will be for the Top three teams in each Division of Male, Female and Coed. Awards will be given in the Aquabike to the top five male and female finishers.
Tri for Real Series Awards
Series Awards, including a Free entry into the 2018 Tri for Real Series, will be presented to the top male and female racing all three events in each five-year age group at the third and final Tri for Real Triathlon on August 13th. Series Finisher Medals will be presented on August 13th to all athletes finishing all three Tri for Real Triathlons. The top three male and female triathletes with the fastest Tri for Real Series Finish (total time) will receive a Rocklin Endurance Sports gift-certificate worth $150 for 1st place, $100 for 2nd, and $50 for 3rd.

Refund and transfer policy
TBF Racing has a no refund policy on all of our events. A refund requested prior to race week will be given a TBF Race credit for the amount of the entry fee minus a $25 processing fee. Credits are not given during race week. Transfers are allowed from one TBF Racing event to another within a one-year time frame. There is a $25 transfer fee. Transfers are not allowed during race week. ALL TBF Racing events are held rain or shine.
Parking Fee at Rancho Seco Park
There is a $10 parking fee for all events at Rancho Seco Park. In the past the parking fee was included in the race entry fee and paid by us, but the park has doubled it’s fee and we can not absorb the additional cost.
Included for each competitor is a Tri for Real Triathlon tech-tee race shirt, XTERRA swim cap, athlete goody bag with CLIF Bar, Emerald Nuts, RedBull and other product samples.
Post Race Athlete Food
Included for each competitor is a post race meal of hot pasta with meat and vegetarian protein options, salad, fruit, cookies and beverage.
Training and Coaching:
TBF Training provides group workouts and coaching for the sport of Triathlon along with individual Multi-sport Coaching and Personal Training.
Race for FREE program
Our Race for FREE Athlete Volunteer Program offers a chance to get involved with multi-sport events, have fun, and earn a $40 TBF Racing Volunteer voucher good towards entry fees at any of our events this year. Each volunteer shift is 4 hours. We ask volunteers to reserve a volunteer position at any of our events by emailing Teri@totalbodyfitness.com as our volunteer positions will fill up quickly.

Rancho Seco Park is the site of many of the TBF Racing summer events. The park features plenty of camping and the lake’s summertime water temperature is in the 70s.
If you are a member of a Triathlon Club that has 10 or more athletes racing with TBF Racing we can provide Reserved bike racks in the transition area for your club, have your club set up a tent in the expo/athlete area, and hang your banners at the event. To take advantage of this program, TRI Clubs must send the list of 10 or more pre-registered athletes to Bill@totalbodyfitness.com 7-10 days prior to the race.
