Golden State Triathlon

The Golden State Triathlon is California’s Only Criterium Sprint Triathlon with a draft-legal bike course. There is also a shorter Super Sprint Triathlon.

Included with race entry is: Golden State Triathlon Finisher Medal, a swim cap, hot post-race meal, free athlete massage, awards, raffle prizes and free beer for athletes 21 and over. Commemorative Golden State Triathlon race shirts are available for $15 when pre-ordered by September 22nd.

Start Times

  • Super Sprint Triathlon: 8:00 am
  • Golden State Triathlon: 9:00 am

Distances

  • Golden State Triathlon: Swim .5 mi – Bike 10 mi – Run 3 mi
  • Super Sprint Triathlon: Swim 200 yds – Bike 5 mi – Run 1 mi

Swim – The race starts from the beach in Discovery Park, across the bridge from the Transition area, finish line and athlete parking. The swim will be a half-mile in the American River, starting upstream and ending downstream on the opposite side of the American River. There is a sand staircase up the riverbank to the transition area. View swim course map

The Super Sprint swim will go directly across the river to the opposite bank and exit in the same location as the Golden State Triathlon.

Bike – Due to road construction and safety concerns, this year’s Golden State Triathlon bike course will be a 10 mile, four-loop bike course. The course is is draft-legal and runs on closed local roads. Athletes are responsible for counting their own bike laps to insure they finish all four laps. Athletes not completing all four bike laps will be disqualified.  The Bike course will not have an aid station. Water and electrolyte beverage, along with energy gels, will be available in the transition area.

Athletes competing in the super sprint triathlon, will complete two 2 1/2 mile laps and return to the transition area. The distance for the bike leg of the super sprint will remain 5 miles.


Run – Both the 1-mile and the 3-mile run courses are fast out and back courses along the beautiful American River Parkway. There will be aid stations at the start of the run and at mile one. ALL athletes must wear their race number on the front of their body during the run and have it when crossing the finish line. View run course map

Transition Area

The Transition area will be on a first-come basis, with the exception of Reserved Bike Racks for TRI Clubs. The transition area at all TBF Racing events is for athletes only. All non-athletes must remain outside of the transition area at all times on race day. Bodymarking will be take place at the entrance to the transition area and must be completed before you enter the transition area. Athletes will have their race number marked on their legs and arms and have their age division on their calf. Glass or bottles are not allowed in the transition area.

Aid Stations

Aid stations will be located in the transition area and at mile 1 on the run course, serving cold water, gels, and electrolyte beverage.

Equipment

Expected water temperature for the American River will be 54-58 degrees. Wetsuits are recommended. Swim fins and snorkels are not allowed. Helmets must be worn and buckled on the bike at all times. Run numbers must be worn on the run and when crossing the finish line. Listening devices of any kind: MP3, IPod, headphones, etc… are not allowed.

Packet Pickup

Registration and packet pick-up for the Golden State Triathlon will be available on race morning beginning at 6:30 am. The races will start promptly at 8 am and 9 am. Be sure to give yourself plenty of time for entrance to the park, parking, transition set-up and warm-up. Your entry fee into the park is included in your Race entry fee.

Wave Starts

Start waves will be determined based on race attendance and athlete safety. Please check with registration on race morning to confirm your exact start time.

All finishers will receive custom Finisher Medals.

First place Overall Male and Female in the Golden State Triathlon will receive Overall Champion Awards. There will be awards five deep in each five-year age group for the Golden State Triathlon. Relay Teams awards will be for the top three in each division of Male, Female, and Coed Teams.

Refund and transfer policy

TBF Racing has a no refund policy on all of our events. A refund requested prior to race week will be given a TBF Race credit for the amount of the entry fee minus a $25 processing fee. Credits are not given during race week. Transfers are allowed from one TBF Racing event to another within a one-year time frame. There is a $25 transfer fee. Transfers are not allowed during race week. ALL TBF Racing events are held rain or shine.

Race for FREE program

Our Race for FREE Athlete Volunteer Program offers a chance to get involved with multi-sport events, have fun, and earn a $40 TBF Racing Volunteer voucher good towards entry fees at any of our events this year. Each volunteer shift is 4 hours. We ask volunteers to reserve a volunteer position at any of our events by emailing volunteersi@totalbodyfitness.com as our volunteer positions will fill up quickly.

Discovery Park is located at the confluence of the American and Sacramento Rivers.

If you are a member of a Triathlon Club that has 10 or more athletes racing with TBF Racing we can provide Reserved bike racks in the transition area for your club, have your club set up a tent in the expo/athlete area, and hang your banners at the event. To take advantage of this program, TRI Clubs must send the list of 10 or more pre-registered athletes to Bill@totalbodyfitness.com 7-10 days prior to the race.
